There are three classes of membership in CFA Society Hong Kong. They are Regular Members, Affiliate Members and Associate Members. For details, please visit https://www.cfahk.org/membership.php?code=mpmt.

There is a yearly Annual Dues for each class of membership.

Please complete an Application Form, a Sponsor Form and an Ethics Declaration Form and return them to CFA Society Hong Kong at 14/F, BOC Group Life Assurance Tower, 136 Des Voeux Road Central, Hong Kong. You may send us a crossed cheque made payable to "CFA Society Hong Kong" for Annual Dues when you send in your application or wait until your application has been approved. For the payment of membership fees, you may request CFA Society Hong Kong (the "Society") to send you a payment link for credit card payment, or pay it by cheque at the Society Office.
If you would like to apply for both the memberships of CFA Institute and CFA Society Hong Kong as a Regular Member or Affiliate Member, please submit your application via CFA Institute's website at www.cfainstitute.org. Please make sure you have indicated that you would like to add the Hong Kong Society membership. You are required to submit either (1) three professional references, or (2) one reference from a regular member of CFA Society Hong Kong and one professional reference. Supervisor references are preferred. Your references will receive instructions for completing the process. At the same time, please also submit a "Personal Particulars of Member" form to us at member@cfahk.org or by post at 14/F, BOC Group Life Assurance Tower, 136 Des Voeux Central, Hong Kong. Please note that a Regular Member or an Affiliate Member of the Society must also be a member of CFA Institute.
7. | If I am a Regular Member or Affiliate Member of CFA Institute, am I automatically a member of CFA Society Hong Kong? If not, how can I apply for the membership of CFA Society Hong Kong? |
No, unless you apply for both organisations' memberships when you first submit your Regular or Affiliate Membership Application and professional references. If you are a member of CFA Institute and would like to apply for the membership of CFA Society Hong Kong, please indicate that you would like to add membership to the Hong Kong Society via your own account page of CFA Institute's website at www.cfainstitute.org. Please also complete a “Personal Particulars of Member” form and return it to us by email at member@cfahk.org or by post at 14/F, BOC Group Life Assurance Tower, 136 Des Voeux Road Central, Hong Kong.
8. | If I am a Regular Member or an Affiliate Member of a CFA Institute member society, can I also join CFA Society Hong Kong as a member? |
Yes. If you are a Regular Member or an Affiliate Member of CFA Institute, you may apply for membership of more than one CFA Institute member societies. Please submit your request via CFA Institute's website at www.cfainstitute.org and do it at your own account page. At the same time, please complete a "Personal Particulars of Member" Form and return it to us by email at member@cfahk.org or by post at 14/F, BOC Group Life Assurance Tower, 136 Des Voeux Road Central, Hong Kong.
9. | What is the process of transferring my membership from another CFA Institute member society to the Hong Kong Society? |
If you are a Regular Member or an Affiliate Member of one of CFA Institute's society membership, you may add more than one society membership or transfer it to CFA Society Hong Kong. Please note that membership fees paid are non-transferrable.
To add Society membership, please do it at your own account page of CFA Institute via www.cfainstitute.org. At the same time, please complete a “Personal Particulars of Member” form and return it to us by email at member@cfahk.org or by post at 14/F, BOC Group Life Assurance Tower, 136 Des Voeux Road Central, Hong Kong. To cancel the membership of the other CFA Institute's member society, please send an email to CFA Institute at cmservices@cfainstitute.org for processing.
Please note that you cannot transfer from a Regular/Affiliate Member to become an Associate Member of the Society or vice versa. If you would like to become a different class of member, please submit your application to us as described in Question 5 and 6 above.

10. | If I have withdrawn my membership with CFA Society Hong Kong in the past two years, how can I reinstate my membership? |
If you are a Regular Member or an Affiliate Member and have only withdrawn the membership of CFA Society Hong Kong but you are still a member of CFA Institute, you can reinstate/re-activate your Society membership at your own account page of CFA Institute's website at www.cfainstitute.org. CFA Institute will collect the Annual Dues on our behalf and you are required to pay for the full year Annual Dues of the Society no matter at which date of the year you reinstate/re-activate your membership. At the same time, please complete and return a "Member Contact Details" Form so that we can update your contact details accordingly.
If you are an Associate Member and would like to reinstate your membership, please complete a Reinstatement Form and return it to the Society together with the Annual Dues.

11. | If I have withdrawn my Regular or Affiliate membership with both CFA Institute and CFA Society Hong Kong in the past, how can I reinstate my membership? |
If you have withdrawn your Regular or Affiliate membership of both CFA Institute and CFA Society Hong Kong, you can reinstate your memberships by making the request via CFA Institute's website at your own account page. You should indicate that you would like to reinstate both the memberships of CFA Institute and the Hong Kong Society. You are required to pay for both the full year Annual Dues of CFA Institute and the Society no matter at which date of the year you reinstate/re-activate your membership. At the same time, please complete and return a "Member Contact Details" Form so that we can update your contact details accordingly.
An Associate Member applicant has to be recommended by a CFA Society Hong Kong's Regular Member or his/her current employer. The sponsor has to complete a Sponsor Form and the applicant has to be submit it together with his/her Application Form and Ethics Declaration Form.
13. | If I am an Associate Member and would like to become a Regular/Affiliate Member, do I have to pay for the Annual Dues again within the same fiscal year? |
To apply for Regular/Affiliate Member, please refer to information provided in Question 6. If an existing Associate Member activates as a Regular Member or an Affiliate Member by paying the Annual Dues for the same fiscal year via CFA Institute's website, this member can request CFA Society Hong Kong to reufnd HK$930 that he/she has paid for the Associate membership. If this member does not have to pay for any Annual Dues for becoming a Regular Member or an Affiliate Member, no refund will be arranged. If a Regular Member or an Affiliate Member wants to become an Associate Member, please refer to information provided in Question 5 and there will not be any refund arrangement.
14. | If I am a member of both CFA Institute and CFA Society Hong Kong, how should I update my personal details such as address changes and working experience? |
We are maintaining a different membership system from CFA Institute. Please inform both of us to update your record in both organisations. To update your personal particulars with CFA Institute, please send them an email at cmservices@cfainstitute.org or do it through their website at www.cfainstitute.org to manage your account. To update CFA Society Hong Kong's record, please send us an email at member@cfahk.org or do it through our website at here.

16. | I am a CFA Society Hong Kong's member and interested to be one of the volunteers for the Society. What shall I do? |
You can send an email to us at info@cfahk.org to indicate the area you are interested to help. We will forward the message to the appropriate Committee Chair to follow up with you.
17. | I’ve forgotten my user name and password for membership renewal at CFA Institute website, how can I retrieve / reset it? |
The CFA Society Hong Kong and CFA Institute membership renewal will be taken place at CFA Institute website, please retrieve / reset your login at here with ease, or contact info@cfainstitute.org directly if you encounter any problem.
You may have renewed your membership by the time our emails are being sent to all members. The membership year runs from 1 July to 30 June. The billing of the upcoming membership year only started in May. If you have already renewed both your CFA Society Hong Kong AND CFA Institute membership for the upcoming fiscal year, please ignore the message and enjoy the member benefits. If not, please renew your membership at your own account page of CFA Institute’s website via https://www.cfainstitute.org/en/membership/renew.

The annual dues of the FY20-21 membership year (1 July 2020 to 30 June 2021) is USD275 for CFA Institute and USD120 for CFA Society Hong Kong.
The membership year runs from 1 July to 30 June. After you have renewed your FY20-21 membership, it will be valid until 30 Jun 2021.

1. | Does CFA Society Hong Kong provide continuing education activities qualifying for CPT hours recognized by SFC? |
Yes. CFA Society Hong Kong is recognised by The Securities and Futures Commission as an institution for providing Continuous Professional Training. We provide Continuing Education programmes and seminars qualifying for CPT hours. Our Society will indicate the qualified number of CPT hours in the flyer of the events.
2. | Does the Continuous Professional Training (CPT) certificate issued by CFA Society Hong Kong qualify the training requirements of my SFC license? |
CFA Society Hong Kong is recognized by SFC as an institution for providing continuous professional trainings. According to the “Guidelines on Continuous Professional Training” issued by SFC, licensed individuals could claim CPT hours from attending the qualified events which their employers consider those events are relevant to the licensees’ job functions.
According to SFC, regulated activities can be classified into different groups for the purposes of meeting the competence requirements. A similar approach will apply to CPT requirements to facilitate compliance. For further information, please refer to the “Guidelines on Continuous Professional Training” issued by SFC or enquire your own compliance team.

5. | What is the CFA Institute Continuing Education Programme? Has Hong Kong participated in the CFA Institute Approved-Provider Programme and does CFA Society Hong Kong provide any events qualifying for professional development credit? |

CFA Society Hong Kong has participated in the CFA Institute Approved-Provider Programme and provides activities qualifying for professional development credit for the CFA Institute Professional Development Programme. If an event is part of the Approved-Provider Programme, you will see the CE logo shown on the flyer.
